The FIS Legal team is comprised of more than 200 lawyers and paralegals worldwide who enjoy being an adviser to and partner with our businesses to help the company achieve its goals. What you will be doing:

The Legal Counsel will provide on the ground consistent legal advice, policy and direction to the eCommerce business across the globe. Critical to this will be interfacing effectively across time zones with the eCommerce Senior Legal Counsel, to whom this role will report and seamless working with the rest of the FIS Legal & Compliance teams globally. Critical to the success of this role will be the ability to rapidly build personal credibility and ensure effective stakeholder management across the eCommerce business group.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide high quality, business focused legal support directly to a growing and developing business
  • Working and supporting Senior Legal Counsel and the eCom Legal team on large regulatory matters and strategic projects including expansion into new markets such as licensing applications, analysing complex business models, and liaising with regulators in the payments and financial services industry.
  • Advising the business on modes of entry into new markets and executing on the same.
  • Drafting and updating of contract templates as needed.
  • Commercial contracts negotiation with customers, suppliers and strategic partners
  • Liaising with senior management in respect of negotiations, transaction structuring and contributing to debates outside of the legal remit.

What you bring:

  • Understanding of payments, financial services and regulation
  • Broad ranging corporate, commercial and IT experience
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of core legal concepts, particularly in contract law, with strong drafting skills and an ability to supervise junior members of the team.
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of the legal issues affecting the payments industry, including
    • Data Privacy including GDPR, PCI DSS
    • PSD2, IFR and FCA Regulation
    • Intellectual Property
    • Financial Crime and Anti Money Laundering Requirements
    • Taking Security
  • Experience at recognised high quality commercial law firm (Magic/Silver Circle preferably) – solid training and some post qualification experience in private practice.

  • Excellent project management skills and ability to handle large workload with competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience of negotiating and documenting a wide range of complex commercial agreements.

Added bonus if you have:

  • Some experience in an in-house role (whether on secondment or after leaving private practice).
  • Experience advising on expansion activity (through either organic or inorganic means) an advantage
  • Direct experience of payment services and/or financial services regulation and working with regulators in respect of expansion plans or change of control would be an advantage
